  • Initial development by C. Wolfhugel in 1997. The goal was to replace a previous MLM "TULP", initiated in 1992, essentialy used by french universities.
  • April 1997, C. Wolfhugel: First beta version of Sympa, only provided the TULP set of commands with better code organization and better performances. Written in Perl.
  • May 1998, C.R.U.: Release of Sympa, providing documentation and support (GPL).
  • Oct 1999, C.R.U.: WWSympa a web interface for Sympa
The C.R.U. uses Sympa for their own mailing-list service
